True American Hero...

In this time of great political clamor, I know who has my vote and I know where my allegiance lies... in the only man who could single-handedly (bare-handedly) eliminate all foreign conflict. (And you know all those gold chains are a true sign of great economic know-how). When I hear Clinton this, or Obama that, when I hear "Well, McCain says...", I just think to myself, "Wouldn't it be great if...". (Man, I pity those other foo's).

There's a first for everything...

Much to our own dismay (and certainly to the dismay of nearly all who may happen upon this blog) we have succumbed to the heavy pressures of popular culture and have decided to start our own family blog. The main purpose of this blog is to share precious moments of our lives in writing and in photograph with our many many loved ones. This site is not to gripe over the injustices of life or bad mouth the government (those purposes are saved for my personal blog, "il caffè" at http://www.effacli.blogspot.com)

I found myself the other day with a few spare minutes and decided that the time had come to start a blog (surprise to most who know me and my undying attempts to keep popular culture out of my life. A blog? I don't even have a T.V....). I decided I wanted something different, something with which I could get all the creativity out that my major suppresses. So, I decided on "il caffè". This was not meant to be a venue to obsess over my passion for the cocoa bean but a play on the publications of early Italian revolutionists, mainly Pietro Verri, in what was then called "il caffè". This was a sort of underground forum for those in and around Milan in the late 18th century who were starting to speak out against the occupying Austrian powers. They chose the title "il caffè" because of the growing popularity of the caffès sprouting up in many large European cities. These caffès were seen as breading grounds for enlightening thought and civility. More or less they facilitated the atmosphere of free thought, free speech and other freedoms that were being suffocated in Austrian oppressed northern Italy.

Wow, that was more than you bargained for I bet! Sorry for the tangent... I guess what I am trying to say is Rivka thought my original revolutionist blog "il caffè" (which I am still planning to keep alive) was a bit too heavy for her to co-claim (plus she is convinced that the website http://www.effacli.blogspot.com, or il caffè spelled backwards (effacli), is too difficult a name to remember). So here is your friendlier Wilcoxson family blog. We will do our 'darnedest' to keep this updated with pictures and updates on our crazy adventures through life. It is a way for us to share with you all (in the most impersonal way possible!). (Can this count for our personal and family journal writing?) Anyhow, as Rivka and I look to the daunting and uncertain future I'm sure that there will be quite a lot to tell.
